With just three games left this season, Driffield will be looking to carry their great form into this weekend’s visit by Durham City.

Driffield are on a great run, losing just one game since the Christmas break : losing 34-20 at YMCA in the first round of 2017.  Their form and confidence showed last time out when they became only the third team to leave Penrith without defeat. As the match report mentions, looking back on the game Penrith would be happy to take the draw whereas Driffield could have won it.  Never mind, a draw at Penrith would have been taken if we had a choice before the game.

Driffield still sit 6th in the league, 5 ahead of Percy Park and 4 behind Bradford & Bingley.  With our N1E status secure for another season, I’m sure Bash, Coops and the lads will be putting full effort into reaching that 5th position.  Mathematically 4th is still to play for, but that would require 15 points from our last 3 games, and Alnwick to finish the season without another point; its not going to happen.

Captain Paul ‘Dobbie’ Dervey said “Saturday’s match is just as important as any other.  We are on a great run at present and if we can finish the season on this form it will put us in great shape for next season”.  Asked about his team’s run he said “Its just down to the team bonding; if you look through the last 3 or 4 seasons we have been very strong after the Christmas break.  This year we have taken it a step further”.

Durham City are still in a massive fight for survival in N1E. They currently sit in the dreaded final relegation spot, 4 points behind Dinnington and 11 points behind Malton & Norton. Its looking like a two-horse race for that spot.  In the run-in Durham play us, Guisborough (h) and Bradford & Bingley (a) whilst Dinnington have Percy Park (a), West Hartlepool (h) and finish at home to Wheatley Hills.  I’m sure Durham will be putting everything into these last 3 games, and will be arriving at Kelleythorpe looking to return home with points.

Last Three Games:

Driffield: drew 24 all at Penrith, won 74-12 v Wheatley Hills (h) and won 28-15 at Percy Park.

Durham City: lost 18-20 v Malton & Norton (h), Lost 19-15 v West Hartlepool (h) and 31-14 at Huddersfield YMCA.
