The 1st team make their longest trip of the season, heading north to Alnwick.

Alnwick currently sit 4th in North One East, 9 points ahead of us and 6 behind Penrith. Alnwick is a tough trip for most teams : they have only lost once this season on home turf, a 7-3 loss to champions-in-waiting Pocklington.  Our record against them is not very good ; we haven’t won a game since 11 January 2014, winning 36-5 at Kelleythorpe.  Alnwick has won every match between us at their place – I’m sure the lads would enjoy stopping that run.

We have only been beaten twice at Kelleythorpe this season : once to Penrith and the other to Alnwick losing 19-27 back in December. At one point in the season Alnwick looked to be pushing for the title.  They have fallen off a little, but still have an eye on second spot, currently sitting 7 behind West. It will be a tough ask, especially as they would be relying on West Hartlepool and Penrith losing both of their final games.

Their last outing was a 34-21 loss at our neighbours Malton & Norton.  This had big effects at both ends of the table, properly ending Alnwick’s promotion hopes and cementing Malton’s place in the league for next season.

Driffield carried on with their unbeaten run last weekend, beating Durham City 39-13 at Kelleythorpe. The game was pretty much won early on, and Driffield should have really put more points on the board. Dench didn’t make last week, but is fit again this Saturday.  Unfortunately Brigham took a season-ending knock to his knee, a knock that will also see him missing out with Yorkshire U20s run. All the best to Will.

Last 3 Games

Alnwick LWW : won at West Hartlepool 22-5, beat YMCA 46-0 at home and lost at Malton & Norton 34-21.

Driffield WDW : beat Wheatley Hills 74-12 at home, drew at Penrith 24 each and beat Durham City 39-13 at home.
