1st XV Vs West Leeds RUFC (h)

2nd XV Vs Harrogate RUFC 2nd (a)

3/4th XV Vs Marist RUFC (a)

This Saturday we welcome West Leeds RUFC for the 1st time. I have been told that the last time we met was the season when Driffield won the Yorkshire Shield, with Roger Iveson as coach.

West Leeds have been climbing the leagues for the last couple of seasons. They went undefeated in 2015/16 season, winning the Yorkshire 2 title. They followed that up by completing a double : promotion from Yorkshire 1.  After finishing behind Bridlington, they beat South Shields Westoe 14 – 19 in the playoff and Level 7 National Cup champions, beating Charlton Park at Twickers. What a couple of seasons. They are now testing the waters in North One East.

They have had a mixed start, losing in the last minute at our neighbours Bridlington 28 – 26 on their 1st outing. Last week they beat Huddersfield YMCA 41 – 26. West have scored 4 tries in both of their outings, so we could be in for great game.

Driffield will be looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season, following last weeks win at Bridlington 17 – 27. Driffield looked in complete control of the match at half-time leading 3 – 20. The second half saw Bridlington start to compete and with 10 minutes left, the score was 17 – 20. That was until Driffield put the match to bed in scoring the crucial try. Unfortunately Captain Rob Mewburn took a knock to his ankle and will be out of action for 2-3 weeks.  Kyle Dench is away this weekend and Nellen is also unavailable and so both miss out. Charlie Beachell starts in the back row, Joe Robinson makes his 1st start in the centres. Paul Dervey returns after his weekend cycling in the Lakes alongside Lawrence and the ever present work-horse Borman makes his first appearance of the season.

The 2nds had a good win last weekend, beating Yarnbury 17-13 at Kelleythorpe. They are looking good at present, with a mix of experience and youth. They head to Harrogate this week, which will be a tough ask. I believe they have a bus booked, so watch out Harrogate.

The 3rd & 4th team join up for their 1st outing, heading into Hull to face old foes Marist RUFC.  The games between these two teams have always been tight and often fiery encounters, and I’m sure this week will be no different.

Note for those heading to Kellyethorpe : it is our annual Ladies Day on Saturday. so if you intend to join us please bear in mind the main bar is female only until Kick Off, you are more than welcome in the small bar. This is for your safety … you don’t want to be the one chap to walk into the room of 170 ladies.

Good luck to everyone.
