Derby & Joan Excursion for Over 35's

Published: 17/12/2009

Driffield travelled to Derby with a more experienced side than the previous week in came Mclarron, Murray and Shorty in the back division.
Also travelling with the 2nd’s to Derby was an over 35 team, they enjoyed a fine game against a strong Derby side which play week in week out. Andrew Chapman and Dom Thompson did a grand job pulling together 15 players and returning to Driffield with only 14 was not a major hassle.
Derby came out of both games ahead on the score sheet, the 2nd’s score was 18-19 & over 35’s 28-12. All players enjoyed a great night, entertainment was supplied by Derby veterans, Dom Thompson’s moon walk (& singing) and the Rafter & Hardy full Monty.
The 2nd’s should of won, dominating possession but not finishing off several chances out wide, we also missed three kickable penalties. Mike Bradshaw, John Butler and Piggy Holland had strong games in the pack, Rob Murray and Rich Stathers caused havoc in the home defence. Unfortunately a lack of composure was our undoing. Tries by Stathers and Short and 8 points from Chris Bradshaw’s boot were not quite enough to defeat a strong derby team.
The unbeaten run has come to an end but with Sandal (who lie 3rd in the league) and Derby to play in the next 2 games the tough games continue. The seconds will have to put some hard work in on the training ground and the over 35’s will need to put more effort in on the post match singing in the rain!
