Driffield 2nd's 35 - Harrogate 2nd's 14

Sweet revenge for Driffield 2nd's as Harrogate come without there super
sub's !
Driffield agreed to host Harrogate on Thursday evening after Ilkley
could not raise a team, the game provided a great opportunity to reverse
the league defeat at Harrogate 3 weeks earlier. Risdale, Short and
Rafter came into the match day squad, Rafter came into the squad after
some fine 3rd team games and some good sessions at training.
Driffield started down the slop and with the wind in their favour, the
forewards were running a mock against a light weight Harrogate pack.
Chapman was showing all his little touches and off loads, Holland was
running from every corner of the pitch and Harrogate were struggling to
cope with his pace and strength. In the Backs Travis and Booth are
starting to form a useful centre partnership, Anderson and Hardy were
also running good lines and off loading in the tackle.
Driffield again scored some fantastic tries, the interplay at times may
off been extravagant but some of the off loads under pressure were quite
superb, this coupled with some good deep attacking lines was impossible
for Harrogate to defend at times.
Anderson, Holland x2, Travis and Mike Bradshaw got the tries and Lucas
kicked 2 penalties and 2 conversions.
Holland had his strongest games of the season to date, throwing in well
and rampaging all over the pitch - if only he trained more and got match
fit he would be a contender for a first team jersey. Bradshaw continues
to carry ball well and put's in some massive hits in defence but at
times he is finding scrummaging at senior level much tougher than age
group level. Butler was back to his best after a nasty thumb injury,
contesting every ruck & maul and never missing a tackle, Rob Norman has
had a run of three games at openside since being promoted from the 3rd's
and has improved with every game, he is turning ball over and becoming
quite a nuisance for the opposition at the breakdown and he never misses
a tackle.
The backs have not always had a settled set up but both Travis and
Anderson's tries came from good straight running coupled with good
handling, Hardy has played very well all season and Shepherdson
continues to play at Scrum Half & wing with great assurance. Rafter had
a fine game on the wing showing good strength in setting up two tries
and good discipline in defence.
Man of the Match was Piggy Holland for his two tries but also his all
round contribution was superb.
Harrogate finished the game early due to a number of serious injuries
which would of had them down to 12 men, but on the day; another national
league club could not live with this young and ever improving Driffield
2nd team.
Wharfdale away next week will be test for the whole squad.
