This Saturday (24/09) we welcome Huddersfield YMCA to Kelleythorpe for our North 1 East match

Driffield will be looking to get back winning ways after last weeks narrow defeat to West Hartlepool. A game that we should have won after being 16 points ahead with 10 mins left. That was last week and, to look on the bright side, to lose to West at home by 1 point is not a bad effort.

Our visitors this week have already been up to Hartlepool, losing 37 – 13. YMCA have dropped from National League Three North, after finding the going tough last season, finishing 3rd bottom, 4 points from safety.

We met YMCA for a couple of seasons, starting in Yorkshire 1. In 2011/12 Season, following our relegation from North 1 & YMCA’s promotion from Yorkshire 2. We drew 10 all in Huddersfield, before we won the return fixture 44 – 7.

The 2012/13 season saw both us and YMCA gain promotion to North East 2; Driffield finishing top, YMCA 2nd. They then beat Guisborough at Huddersfield to gain promotion. That season Driffield did the double over our visitors, scoring a last minute winner at Huddersfield. It was such heavy fog that day, the Driffield travelling support only knew we had scored because of the shouts of joy from the players.

2013/14 was a different story for us. YMCA did the double over us, beating us 31 – 16 at Kelleythorpe & 32 – 3 at their place. Huddersfield finished second in the league that year; Driffield were 4th, 29 points behind our visitors. They beat Birkenhead Park, away in the play-off winning 29 – 19.

This season, although early, looks as though it is going to be very tight. Home advantage is looking key; 21 matches so far, but only 4 have been won by the away team. As already mentioned, YMCA opened their season at Hartlepool, losing 37 – 13, since then they have had two victories, and two identical score lines. Winning at Dinnington 27 – 10, then beating our local rivals Malton 27 – 10 in Huddersfield. They currently sit 6th in league on 9 points, including 1 try BP.

It has a feeling of tight game, and I’m sure it will live up to it. Hopefully with Driffield taking the points.

This Saturday we host our annual Ladies Day – we have 150 ladies sitting down for a pre-match lunch. We hope you have a great day ladies and thanks for your support.

Have a great day everyone.
