Driffield welcomes Malton & Norton RUFC for our North 1 East game

The last time Malton visited Kelleythorpe in a league match was on 7th December 2013. Driffield won 37 – 32.

Since then we have played twice in the league.  In the return match that season, Driffield won 70 – 33.  In our first meeting in the season, Malton come out on top in a pretty steady game, final score 12 – 6.

Both teams are having a steady season; in fact if you look at the league you will see we have both Won 6 & Lost 10, both have 33 points, but Malt sit 1 place above us on points difference. Unfortunately we sit 3rd & 4th from bottom ; with 3 getting relegated both sides will be looking to kick on for the 2nd half of the season.

Malton’s victories have come against us, Guisborough and Wheatley. Their last two games see them beat YMCA and complete the double over Dinnington, the last two at the Gannock.

Their dangerous backs are well known, but their pack is formidable.  In fact both sets of backs cancelled each other out in the 1st game, with Malton’s forwards making the difference.

Driffield will be selecting from near enough a full squad.  Alex Piercy is out for most of the season following his injury earlier season against Dinnington. Kyle Dench will be making his return to Kelleythorpe, either starting or on the bench ; welcome back Kyle.

A massive crowd is expected; the pre-match lunch has been sold out since the fixtures were released.

Don’t worry about the cold weather ; a team spent the morning sheeting the 1st XV pitch down, preventing a frozen pitch. 9am Sat to help remove it if you are free.

A massive game, which is not just a local derby  but will have a massive say in where both teams finish come April.

Good luck to everyone.
