Chairman Andrew Chapman wanted to send a quick message of thanks to everybody who came down to the club on Saturday to help spruce the club up, and let those unable to be there get a flavour what was achieved.

Many hands certainly made light work on the day, as we managed to :

  • paint all the railings surrounding the clubhouse and first team pitch
  • paint the back of the score board
  • paint the cross bars for one of the training pitches
  • cut back grass and brash
  • steam clean the walls of the clubhouse ready to receive a fresh lick of paint.

Andrew’s thanks go to Dominic Thompson and Andrew Megginson for their organisational skills.  Also to Helen Sunderland, not just for painting, but providing refreshments and a BBQ for a hungry work force.

Special thanks go to Charlie Dewhirst.  Even though he is based in London working for the RFU at Twickers, he originates from Nafferton and took the time to pop in, roll up his sleeves and do some painting and weeding for us.

We were also joined by John O’Brien, president of Southern Districts in Sydney, who has to be the volunteer with the most miles under his belt.  It was good to see John again on a day that I think reflected very well on our club.

A very worthwhile day; good to see the new first team captain Rob Mewburn and so many of the first team squad down as well as supporters of all ages.  We will do this again so those who missed out this time do not fear : the opportunity to contribute will come round again.

Great effort , well done one and all.  A great club day.
