The 1st XV host Scarborough 1sts in North One East League, 2nds travel to Sheffield Tigers in the Yorkshire Premier Merit, 3rd and 4ths travel to Scarborough to face their 2nd and 3rd teams.

Driffield will be out to overturn their defeat at Silver Royd back in November.  Driffield were in the game and looking strong and far fitter, until a bad injury to the Scarborough prop halted the game for quite a while.  Scarborough adapted better to the long break in play and managed a 32 – 16 win.  Up to that point they had only lost the once : 21 – 24 at home to York.  After that game they went on a 6-game losing run, losing at home to Pock, B&B and Kendal, with travelling loses at Percy Park, Malton and Morley.  From League leaders, they were now fighting to keep out of the dreaded 3rd-from-bottom fight.  3 wins from 5 games has most likely seen relegation off : the The losses came at Moortown 35 – 24 and at York 31 – 14. With home wins against the bottom two  and a 21 – 12 victory over Durham City last weekend.

Driffield came close again last weekend, losing 23 – 17 at Cleckheaton.  It was a very good performance from Driffield : we butchered a few chances that maybe could have brought the win.  That result, alongside Moortown’s win, dropped us a position in the league to 4th.

York are well clear at the top on 80 points.  We are on 64 points and are still in the battle for 2nd, chasing Cleckheaton (69) and Moortown (67).  Morley sit 5th (57), then we have 10 points covering the next 7 teams, Scarborough 6th (55) to Percy Park (45). It is looking like its going to be one of Percy Park, Pock or Durham City who finish in 12th position.
