1st XV face a 2nd derby on the bounce as they head over the Wolds to face Malton 1st XV the 2nds welcome Sandal 2nds to Kelleythorpe.

After last Saturday’s draw with Scarborough, our 1st XV will be looking to get their 1st win of the season on the board.  The last time we met was at Malton on 8 Feb 2020, when Malton ran out 28-7 winners. In our home fixture on 12 Oct 2019 we won 45 – 31.  Malton finished the short season in 10th place with 65 points, and their victory last season was their 1st win in this match since 2016.

Last weekend, Malton lost at Moortown 43 – 36.  Reading Malton’ match report, Moortown went out in front by 19 points within the 1st 20 minutes, and Malton salvaged a losing Bonus Point with a penalty kick on the final whistle.

Elsewhere in the league, Ilkley beat Consett 82 – 0 to confirm their early-season-favourite tag. Both Halifax teams promoted from Y1 last season started well, with Heath beating Pocklington 16-15 and Old Brodleians winning at Morpeth 8-15.  Morley beat Bradford & Bingley 45-7  at Bradford, and Cleckheaton beat Durham City.

A few changes in our line up : Mewburn & Watts are unavailable, so Brankley makes his 1st start at No. 8, and Will Brigham returns at 10.  Dinsdale returns at centre, meaning a re-shuffle in the back line : Stephenson moves to the wing, with Short dropping to the Bench.  Paul Dervey returns after 2 years out, taking his place on the bench, and Robson is with the 2nd XV.  Ramsden starts for the unavailable Brumfield at hooker.  Kyle Turner also makes his return on the bench. Good to see some more lads returning.

Good luck to all.
