  • Ladies Development XV head to Malton on Sunday.

A warm welcome to Cleckheaton RUFC as they make the trip to Kelleythorpe for our North One East fixture.  Cleck sit one place ahead of us in the league, separated only by games won – we both have 21 points.  Cleck have won 4 of their 6 games compared with our 3.  Their wins came against Consett (A), Morpeth (H), Moortown (H) and were handed a Home Walkover on the 1st weekend against Durham, after Durham fielded an ineligible player. They have lost against Old Brodleians (H) and Ilkley (A).

Cleck have always been tough opposition for us.. The last time we met was 29 Febriary 2020 when lost 23 – 17 at their place.  The season before we won at Cleck 17 – 11, whilst they turned us over at Kelleythorpe 37-28.

In the league, although early in the season, it looks like Bradford, Durham, Consett and Morpeth might be fighting off relegation, whilst Ilkley, Old Brods and Heath sit pretty at the top.  Our loss last weekend means there are no unbeaten teams in the league any more.  There are some interesting fixtures this weekend : Bradford host Morpeth, Heath host Ilkley, Moortown host Old Brods, Morley host Consett, Pocklington host Durham and Scarborough host Malton.

Driffield will be looking to get back on track following last week’s loss at Ilkley : there are various reports about that game, but I believe we didn’t play anywhere near our potential whilst Ilkely were on top form.  I’m sure the lads will have learnt from it and put maximum effort into sorting the issues out this week at training.  A few changes again in the starting squad : Pettinger and Nellen both return in the front row, with Dervey and Blenkinsop dropping to the bench. Jenkinson replaces Forbes in the 2nd row, which allows Sowersby to start in the back row along side Mewburn and Brankley. In the backs the only change is Soanes in for Rix.

2nd XV have another tough fixture as they visit Wharfedale : it is not often we come away with a win from Wharfdale so this will be a great test of where they stand.  Another tight game against Doncaster Phoenix last weekend finished with a Driffield win 15 – 12.

3rd XV host Hull RUFC 2nds, looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season.  Last weekend they beat Beverley 2nds 82 – 5.

4th XV travel to Hull University for their 2nd match of the season.  They lost against Hull Ionians last weekend.
